Special Education Cooperatives are designed to provide special education services to students which include employing school psychologists, speech language pathologists, special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other needs. Because Montana has numerous rural school districts, many school districts partner and participate with a special education cooperative to pool limited resources to provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) services to students with disabilities.
